Ivan Sandler
Ivan Sandler was born in Ottawa, Canada, where he spent the first 7 years of his life before moving to the United States.
He now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he is a high school student.
He found his love for art at the age of 5 when his Grandmother bought him his first set of colored pencils. He continues drawing today, with a focus on urban art, because he wants to add color and beauty to the grey and monotone cities that surround the planet.
Through the use of color and vibrance, Ivan aims to engage and bring joy to the viewer. His street art features fun characters full of color and small details, which are also frequently seen in his sketches. His characters deliver humor through their funky outfits and disproportionate body parts.
Ivan believes that everybody is very different and has their own unique story, and he displays this in his graffiti. He loves transforming everyday people that he sees into peculiar characters and adding a story behind them. After he has an idea and story in mind, he typically sketches out a simple design. Then, he begins spray painting, starting with large areas and moving to small details at the end. He wraps up by adding highlights and bursts of color around the art to unify the piece.
In contrast to his goofy characters, he also loves creating realistic portraits featuring compelling backgrounds that draw the viewer closer to the piece. He typically uses colored pencils but also has projects with different types of paint and pastels.
Ivan plans to continue studying art in College through architecture in hopes of pursuing his dream of becoming a successful architect.
